The Aurek fighter was a delta shaped starfighter armed with two heavy laser cannons and two proton torpedo launchers, capable of holding six torpedoes each. The fighter was capable of considerable acceleration and maneuvering, and had variable geometry wings. They were easily refuelable and rearmable, thus crushing operating costs. Although the Aurek fighters saw action throughout its service life of over 330 years, during this period they underwent extensive upgrades and revisions from one century to the next.
Following the Great Sith War, the Republic entered an era of peace. During this period, the Republic Navy required a new starfighter to replace their aging Star Saber XC-01 starfighter. And the Aurek was the winning design in the "Generation Tomorrow Starfighter" competition.
A life of conflict
Aurek fighters were first used by the Republic during the Mandalorian Wars, they continued to serve throughout the Jedi Civil War, the First Jedi Purge, the Great Galactic War and Cold War. They also served in the Onderonian navy.
Seven squadrons of Aurek fighters were part of the Republic fleet that attacked the Star Forge during the Battle of Rakata Prime. A couple of these fighters were used by Jedi Knights to land on board the Forge during the strike against Darth Malak's Sith Empire.
