I found out how to extract client files and am in the process of working on the map files. What format and size would we like the files to be in? It looks like they're all 1024x1024. -- Alianin T • C 21:50, 17 April 2012 (UTC)
- We already have all the maps Alianin. No need to reinvent the wheel. -- Wynthyst File:User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 21:56, 17 April 2012 (UTC)
- Sounds interesting Alianin. For my own knowledge how do you proceed to extract the map files. You found a tool for that? Any links to share? Would be kind, thanks ;) And it's a good news as it close the discussion on image rights ;) Zophar 22:19, 17 April 2012 (UTC)
- I, too, would be interested in knowing how to accomplish this. We could upload those maps we are using in our immediate work while we wait for the general upload. Also, I'd be curious to see if we could utilize the method to locate and pull item icons. We have a lot to look for, as DarthHaterDB doesn't actively include most Republic-specific icons. -- Heaven's Agent 23:00, 17 April 2012 (UTC)
- Here is a guide written about the process of extracting the .tor files from the client. From there it's a matter of getting the right program to open the files and convert them to a usable format. I just extracted the icons and there's over 50,000, but at least the names are somewhat helpful. -- Alianin T • C 11:25, 18 April 2012 (UTC)
- I'm beginning to understand why the DB just pulled icons and renamed them; just looking at icons for Bounty Hunter equipment alone there are over 7000 icons, labelled by source, chapter, slot, variant, etc. The names are much more descriptive, though; we'll have to employ a more robust categorization system, me thinks, and a visual presentation for finding specific icons as needed. I am detecting a challenge ahead of me. -- Heaven's Agent 15:56, 20 May 2012 (UTC)
Duplicate images[]
As I've gone through converting and uploading files, I've notice some artwork is duplicated even though the names are different. How do we want to handle these? I'm going off a visual match when I use them in articles, so I don't know that we'd end up using the duplicate images. Unless someone has a better way of doing it. -- Alianin T • C 14:41, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
- I'd say if you notice that the icon is duplicated, simply use the one that already exists on the project. No need to duplicate a file already on the site. That said, be vary careful when deciding this: I've yet to find two icons that are exactly the same. Thus far if I look closely enough at two similar images I have always found differences. -- Heaven's Agent 22:32, 14 June 2012 (UTC)

- Actually, while adding the icons you uploaded to my visual reference I think I found my first true duplicate: File:Ipp.class.tro.crafting.rdps1.t2x1.legs.png and File:Ipp.class.tro.quest.rdps2.t2x1.legs.png. That said, for some reason the borders are different. All the icons I pull up are squared perfectly with a black fill. Do they all have rou nded corners when you access them? -- Heaven's Agent 22:50, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
- The rounding is from transparent pixels in the image. It looks like all the files I converted have them. The dds files pre-conversion seem to have a black border. I didn't do anything fancy on the batch conversion, so I don't know how it got changed. Which would we prefer having on the site? -- Alianin T • C 23:54, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
- I prefer the filled square, as I think it looks better when used in the body of articles, tables, and within the popup tooltip functionality. Especially when more than one icon is displayed in proximity; I feel it looks cleaner when the icon borders line up. What do you think? -- Heaven's Agent 01:02, 15 June 2012 (UTC)
- The biggest problem for me is that I cannot access versions of the icons with rounded edges. I would be unable to upload any icons to the project whatsoever. -- Heaven's Agent 22:10, 25 June 2012 (UTC)
